Our sample exams simulate the PSI exams. To obtain a Journeyman  license, each candidate must pass the trade portion of the ES-3  Low Voltage Journeyman exam!

While most of our students pass their exams in 4-6 weeks, our system is a three month enrollment and allows for unlimited Home Study (computer software subscription), Seminars, and Tutoring for a three (3) month period. Questions, answers, and article references that you need to pass the new PSI state examination are contained in this new program. Here is a small sample of our exam prep questions:

  • What is the maximum distance from entry that a mobile home must have the coaxial cable grounded ?
    Answer: 30 feet. Reference: NEC 2011, 820.93.
  • A Hold-up Alarm is defined as having what typical feature?
    Answer: Override for fire alarms. Reference: NFPA 72 4.4.3.6.2(3)(Ex).
  • What is the correct procedure for testing smoke detectors?
    Answer: Use manufactures recommendations. Reference: NFPA 72 10.4.3.2.4.

License candidates must be pre-approved prior to testing with PSI. Applications submitted are usually processed in 2-3 weeks, at which time PSI will mail each license candidate a postcard (or email) to indicate approval to take the examination.

Experience requirement: 2 years on-the-job training under the supervision of an Low Voltage Electrical Contractor, Electrical Contractor, Master Electrician, or Inspector.

  • ES-3 Journeyman Exam: 50 question exam, 145 minute time limit, test score 75%
