Below is a small sample of our exam prep questions:

  1. Given, an installation has a feeder with a 90A fuse, and the transformer load is fed by a circuit breaker (setting equal to the ampacity of the tap), and the tapped feeder conductors are in a 20 foot run of conduit, what would be the minimum allowable ampacity of the tap conductor?
    • NEC – 240.21(B)(3)(1) The conductors supplying the primary of a transformer have an ampacity at least one-third the rating of the over-current device protecting the feeder conductors. 90A / 3 = 30A.
  2. Which statement is correct when calculating a dwelling service load using the Optional Method?
    • (I) Air Conditioning: 8,000 Watts
    • (II) Heating: 10,000 Watts
    • Correct Choice: II only (Include the Heating load only).
  3. Given a transformer diagram shows a configuration 3-Phase, 4-Wire 120/208 V Wye. The system has three of the following loads connected to A-N, B-N, and C-N. They are all the same load values: 14 kW, NON-continuous, balanced loads. Assume each of the three loads are resistive. What would be the maximum ampere load on the Neutral feeder conductor?
    • Step_1: Understand the theory; the maximum neutral current would take place when two of the loads were on full and the third was off.
    • Step_2: Calculate the current in one phase; I=P/E = 14,000 Watts / 120 Volts = 117 amperes.
  • The National Electrical Code, 2020 edition

  • National Fire Alarm Code, 2013 edition
